CUSTOM FRAME ASSEMBLY
ASSEMBLE YOUR
CUSTOM FRAME YOURSELF AND TAKE 15% OFF! PLUS, SAVE BIG ON YOUR
SHIPPING/HANDLING CHARGES!
That's right! Order your custom-sized picture frame from ArtRight.com
unassembled and take a 15% discount off of the
price of the frame. Assembly is easy, and no special tools are
required. See below for assembly instructions.
NOTE: Due to varying specifications, not all custom frame
mouldings are available unassembled.
Also, by ordering your frame unassembled, you can reduce the size of your
shipment package and save up to 75% on your
shipping/handling charges! Quite often, shipping/handling charges
make up one of the largest components of the total cost of your custom picture
frame. Did you know that:
-
a
typical large picture frame that costs $95.95 to ship can be shipped
unassembled for only $26.95?
-
a
typical medium-sized picture frame that costs $41.95 to ship can be shipped
unassembled for only $12.95?
These
examples of actual comparative shipping quotes illustrate how you can save big
on shipping/handling charges by having your custom frame shipped to you
unassembled. In addition to these savings, you get a 15% discount
off of
the price of your frame by choosing to assemble it yourself. The only
drawback is that if you opt for a long flat shipping box instead of a large flat
one, some large flat items that you may require for your framing project cannot
be included in your shipment from ArtRight.com. However, most of these
items such as backing boards, glass and even matboards are readily obtainable in
your hometown. In many cases, the amount of money you save on shipping
charges from ArtRight.com more than justifies a trip to your local art/craft
supply store or glass shop. Click here
for some helpful information about obtaining these items locally.
The
special "thumbnailing" referred to in this section may not be
available with some wider (over 4 inches) mouldings. In this case, you may
have to take your moulding to a local frame shop for assembly. This service is
often provided for a nominal charge. Email sales@ArtRight.com
for more information.
CUSTOM
FRAME ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Assembly
of your custom frame from ArtRight.com is easy and requires no special
tools.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: wood glue, hammer, flat
screwdriver, newspaper/cardboard/drop-cloth and paper towels.
STEP
1: Prepare a large flat work area on which to assemble
your custom frame. Covering this area with a dropcloth, newspaper or
cardboard will help to protect your frame from nicks and scratches. Doing
so will also protect your work area from excess glue. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
YOUR WORK SURFACE IS A SINGLE, FLAT PLANE.
STEP 2:
Lay out all 4 pieces of your frame moulding
in position on the flat work area FACE DOWN. Apply glue to the mating
surfaces of all 4 corners of the frame and to the insides of the specially routed
holes.
STEP 3:
Insert the plastic "thumbnail"
wedges (provided) into each of the special holes at the corners of the
frame. They should be inserted pointed end first. Tap them
securely into place using your hammer and/or screwdriver.
STEP 4:
Using a damp paper towel, clean any excess
glue from your picture frame. Allow joints to dry overnight.
THAT'S
IT! Due
to the professional mitering and pre-routing of your new frames corner joints,
you can rest assured that your new custom frame is assembled perfectly.
However, if you would like to be sure, you can double check the following:
1)
Check for
planarity: Provided that your work surface is on a single, flat
plane, your frame will be planar also. with your frame still lying
flat on the work area, look across its backside. each pair of opposite
sides of the frame should appear parallel. If they are not, you can
shim up a corner or two as needed with pieces of cardboard, paper or other
objects to hold the frame in planar shape as the glue dries.
2)
Check for
squareness: With your frame still laying flat on it's front, measure
it's diagonals (from each outside corner to the opposite corner).
These two measurements should be identical or very close to one
another. If they are not (highly unlikely), you may be able to force
the frame to be square while the joints are still wet. This is best
avoided, however, as doing so may make for unsightly joints at the frame's
front. Keep in mind that this is a very precise test of squareness and
that it isn't crucial that the measurements be exactly identical.
